There is nothing like an Epic Annual Father-Son Ski Trip to Beaver Creek, Colorado for special bonding time between a father and son. Challenging mountain slopes, beautiful scenery and fun times together make this an annual tradition to remember. This is especially valuable for Modern Empty Nesters, since private time with older children is harder to come by after leaving the nest.
After a long hiatus due to COVID, my husband and son were excited to return to their favorite mountain together. And, upon their invitation asking me to join this year, I decided to crash this father-son annual excursion to see what brings them back to Beaver Creek, Colorado each year. So I packed my favorite suitcase and ski gear, excited to hit the slopes together.
Beaver Creek is the Perfect Father-Son Ski Destination
I have been to many ski resorts, including neighboring sister resort Vail, Colorado. Vail is an awesome mountain and ski resort, so I was quite curious as to why they would choose Beaver Creek instead for their Epic Annual Father-Son Ski Trip. Once I arrived, however, I quickly appreciated the many factors that bring them back year after year.
While Beaver Creek is known for where billionaires go to play, it’s laid back vibes and family friendly atmosphere is where people come to get away from it all. Nature is the primary focus, not flashy attire.
Beaver Creek Has Great Ski-In/Ski-Out Lodging:
The Westin Beaver Creek Riverfront Resort & Spa is a skier’s paradise. It’s ideal ski-in/ski-out location and convenient ski services make this an excellent home base. It’s luxe accommodations and buzzy lobby with large fireplaces welcomes guests all day long. It is chic, yet family friendly, with wonderful amenities. It is by far one of the best ski hotels I have experienced. Other convenient, luxe ski-in/ski-out lodging options in Beaver Creek include The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, The Osprey at Beaver Creek and Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort & Spa. For those who prefer a full kitchen, you can rent fabulous homes from VRBO as well.
Beaver Creek Mountain Ideal for All Skill Levels
Beaver Creek Mountain is ideal for all ski levels. The mountain consists of 1,830 acres of skiable terrain for skiers of all levels. It is also the location of the Men’s & Women’s Alpine World Cup Ski Races, putting it on the map as a renowned ski destination. The scenery is stunning, with picturesque views at every turn. Slopes are not as crowded as other resorts and great care is taken to keep the runs well-groomed with corduroy-like streaks running through the snow. Maps are conveniently placed on chair lifts and directly off lifts, so you can easily determine which challenging slope is best for you.
Beaver Creek Village Anchors the Mountain
Beaver Creek Resort has a smaller, warmer, more personalized feel than its sister resort, Vail. Just a short shuttle ride from the Westin Beaver Creek Riverfront Resort & Spa brings you to Beaver Creek Village — a cute walking village consisting of numerous galleries, shops and restaurants that surround the ice rink in the center. The Vilar Performing Arts Center hosts many well-known artists. Tired skiers are offered warm chocolate chip cookies on silver platters after a long day on the slopes. Numerous guides greet you and are ready to assist with any questions. The resort offers many special events throughout the year, including food festivals, ski challenges and conferences.
