Heading to Europe? When you’re packing, we often remember the biggest items but overlook smaller essentials that can ensure you have a smooth trip! Don’t leave home without these 6 European Travel Essentials! Bon voyage!
1. Credit Cards: Credit cards offer some of the best exchange rates. However, choose your credit cards wisely! Check your credit card terms before you leave and take only those cards without foreign transaction fees, such as American Express Platinum Card/Gold, Capital One Venture X, and Chase Sapphire Reserve to name a few. Otherwise, you’ll be sorry when you’re hit with extra foreign transaction fees on your credit card bill for each charge. You do not need to take more than two top cards (preferably an Amex and a Visa or Mastercard (some smaller businesses do not take Amex). This will allow you to keep track of charges more easily and keep other cards safe at home.
2. Portable Charger: Bring a portable charger with you during the day as you roam the city! Nothing worse than your phone turning off as you’re navigating unfamiliar city streets! Not to mention the utter frustration when your phone turns off before you can capture special shots!
3. Euros: While your credit card gives you the best rate, don’t get caught without cash! Cash is most essential for taxis upon arrival (in case taxi doesn’t accept credit cards!), hotel tips and small markets/stalls. Pick up from a local currency exchange office, order from your bank or contact your local AAA for a starter Euro travel pack. Do NOT exchange cash from the airport unless you’re desperate since it will be your worst rate.
4. Birdie Personal Alarm: Your personal safety companion for peace of mind. Especially helpful for solo travelers! A simple addition to your bag that can be a lifesaver!
Safety-First! Carry Birdie from day to night––around town, walking your dog, on the trails, across campus, to your car, in the parking lot, on public transportation, when traveling.
Birdie empowers women in their everyday lives. It’s the perfect gift to share––with your sisters, daughters, mothers, friends, students, colleagues and elders in your community.
5. Converter: Charge your gadgets anywhere with European travel adapter! Don’t forget to bring it back home!
6. Comfortable Walking Shoes: Explore a city on foot is the best way to soak in the culture. Walk comfortably all day long with the perfect pair! Find a cool pair that looks good with pants or a dress. Nothing worse than big blisters on your feet. With cobblestone streets around corners, leave your high heels at home!
